Résumé
This article focuses on Ola Rotimi’s The Gods Are Not to Blame (1971). As a Nigerian playwright, Ola Rotimi deals with the usefulness of Yoruba culture and tradition in general and African one in particular. He pinpoints the issue of divination practices in Nigerian society and its importance in African society. Through his play, Ola Rotimi does an adaptation of the Greek tragedy Oedipus Rex in Nigerian culture and tradition. This article aims at showing the importance of divination practices in African society and its contribution to the stability of African communities. Through divination practices, Ola Rotimi promotes African values in his play. Therefore, postcolonial theory has been applied to analyze the way culture and tradition has been valorized.
