In Dolen Perkins-Valdez’s Wench, language functions as a double-edged sword, serving simultaneously as a potent instrument of both destruction and healing. This study adopts a dialectical framework to examine the power dynamics manifested within this contemporary slave narrative, with the aim of elucidating the development of Black women’s subjectivity.
