EFFET DE RÉEL DANS LES RÉCITS DE THEODORE DREISER : CAS DE LA FIGURE FÉMININE DANS SISTER CARRIE, JENNIE GERHARDT ET AN AMERICAN TRAGEDY
Résumé
Le contraste entre le réel et la fiction romanesque semble problématique de par leurs caractéristiques. Cet état de fait s’appréhende par le prisme d’une diversité d’items qui surgissent de l’univers romanesque par la volonté de l’écrivain et qui affichent une entière intention de rapprocher les deux. Il s’agit, entre autres, du personnage, du temps et de l’espace. Ils constituent le trait d’union entre les deux de par leurs qualités héritées du monde réel par la maestria de l’écrivain. Les qualités de ces trois items confèrent aux personnages dreiseriens, une illusion de vie calquée sur la réalité sociale à laquelle adhère le lecteur. Telle est la particularité des protagonistes dans l’œuvre romanesque de Theodore Dreiser.
Abstract
The contrast between the reality and the fiction seems to be problematic due to their characteristics. This fact can be understood at the level of a diversity of items that appear from the novel through the writer’s will with a full intention to bring the two worlds closer. These items make reference to the character, the time and the space. They link the two worlds due to their qualities inherited from the real world under the writer’s skill. The qualities of these items provide Dreiser’s characters, a life illusion copied from human reality to which the reader subscribes. Such is the particularity of the protagonists in the novels of Theodore Dreiser.
