Résumé
This study is written from a postcolonial theoretical perspective. It examines political corruption
and leadership failure in Chinua Achebe's A Man of the People. It argues that the novel portrays
postcolonial politics as a realm characterised by greed, patronage, electoral fraud, and moral
hypocrisy for personal gain. Using satire and irony, Achebe reveals the breakdown of public trust
and the fragility of political institutions in a newly independent Nigeria. Ultimately, the novel
suggests that independence without ethical leadership and accountable governance leads to social
disillusionment rather than genuine national progress.
